The Ukraine war is causing severe turbulence in Rome: not only is the conflict causing Mario Draghi’s government to falter more and more. His pro-Ukraine course is also blowing up the strongest force in parliament, the Five Star Movement: its former boss and current foreign minister, Luigi Di Maio, wants to go his own way. Apparently he is already collecting signatures for a new faction. He already has the name for his new group: “Together for the future”.
“Today is a difficult decision that I never thought I would have to make … but today I and many other colleagues and friends are leaving the Five Star Movement,” Di Maio said at a news conference Tuesday night.
