The warmest November in the last 15 years in Thessaly, Peloponnese, Crete, Aegean

The average value of maximum daily temperatures this November fluctuated at extremely high levels almost throughout the country, compared to the average of the period 2010-2019, according to network of 51 weather stations of meteo.gr of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA).

As stated in a related announcement, this year’s November was characterized by many days with positive temperature deviations, and except for western and northern Greece, it was the warmest November since 2010.

In Thessaly, the Aegean islands and Crete, the largest positive temperature deviations were recorded, with the average monthly values ​​fluctuating 2.5°C above normal levels for the season. For Thessaly, the Peloponnese, Crete and the rest of the Aegean islands, it was the warmest month in the last 15 years, while for Central Greece it was the second warmest (+2.1°C).

Worth mentioning is the pan-European high temperature record for the month of November at the meteorological station of meteo.gr/EAA in Sisi Lasithi, Crete. The temperature reached 35.1°C on November 4, 2023.

The largest positive temperature deviations, of the order of 6-9°C, occurred in the first ten days of the month.

In Athens, the average monthly deviation value of the maximum temperature was +2.2°C, with 27 of the 30 days of the month being warmer than normal levels for the season. In Thessaloniki, 24 days of the month were warmer than the average value of the period 2010-2019 and the average maximum temperature of the month fluctuated +1.3ºC above normal levels. Paros, Tinos and Agios Nikolaos in Crete saw the most days with a positive temperature deviation (28 days), followed by Volos and Skopelos with 27 days. The biggest deviation in average monthly maximum temperature was noted in Lemnos with +3.7°C.
