In no other official swimming place in Riga is the water so warm.

The water temperature on the beaches of Lucavsala and Kīšezer is 20 degrees. The water temperature in Rumbula and Večakis reaches 19 degrees.

The coldest water is at Vakarbulli beach, where it warms up to 17 degrees.

The municipal police invites the residents to choose one of the nine Riga swimming spots, where lifeguards work, to relax by the water. Basically, security guards monitor water safety in swimming areas every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On the other hand, at night, if necessary, help can be received at six lifeguard stations – Vecāķi, Vakarbulļi, Lucavsala, Rumbula, Bābelīte and Ķīšezera -, however, it should be taken into account that there are fewer lifeguards working in the swimming areas during night shifts than during the day.

It has already been reported that the microbiological quality of the water in many official swimming areas of Jurmala and Riga still does not meet the requirements, therefore the Health Inspectorate (VI) supplements the bathing restrictions established there.

Summarizing the results of laboratory water samples received until August 5, a ban on swimming has been established in Jūrmala’s sea bathing areas – Asari and Melluži, in Riga’s Daugava swimming areas – Rumbula and Ķīpsala, as well as in Sigulda’s swimming area “Gauja”.

Due to microbiological pollution, the inspectorate advises not to swim in the Jūrmala sea bathing areas Bulduri, Dubulti, Dzintari, Lielupe, Majori and Pumpuri, Salaspils swimming area in Daugava, as well as Jelgava’s Lielupe swimming area “Lielupe right bank swimming area” and Saldus lake swimming area.

As flood water continues to drain from the flooded areas in the municipalities of Jūrmala and Jelgava, the VI advises not to swim in Jūrmala’s sea swimming areas in Jaunķemeri, Vaivari and Kauguris, in Jūrmala’s Lielupe Ezeru Street swimming area and in Lielupe’s Priedaine swimming area, as well as in Jelgava’s Lielupe swimming area on Pasta Island.

On the other hand, the “Lipuški” swimming area of Lake Rāzna is still closed while construction works are underway in the area of the swimming area. It is forbidden to swim in the construction site during the swimming season.

Swimming is allowed in the other 37 official swimming areas. During this week, the results of the microbiological analyzes of the repeatedly taken water samples of the bathing areas, taken by the inspection, or planned to be taken by municipalities, will be known, VI informed.
