The information collected by the municipality shows that the water level decreased during the day, including in the two most critical blocks of the city. On average, the water level has decreased by ten centimeters in Jānis, Māter, Zirgu, Pēter, Kalpak, Stacija, Veidenbaum and Valņu streets. The heavy-duty pump attached to the additional rainwater pumping station is still working there.

The water level has also dropped significantly in Mazaja tje and Sakņudārza Street.

Officials predict that if the water level continues to recede at this rate, these streets could be reopened to traffic this evening.

Residents of the flooded streets and houses also followed Rinkēvičs’ visit through the windows, LETA agency observed. The president asked a resident who captured the incident on her phone: “It’s not easy, isn’t it?”.

It has already been reported that Rinkēvičs is visiting Jelgava and Kalnciems parish of Jelgava county today to get acquainted with the storm and rain damage prevention works in the city and Kalnciems.
