BOLZANO. Noi Techpark is expanding. In June, the two new buildings will be inaugurated in the area along via Gianni Brida, at the back of the former Alumix, which will host the companies linked to food and green technologies, which will begin their move shortly. In August, however, the Faculty of Engineering will move, which will become operational from October, for the start of its first academic year, coinciding with that of the new Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Claudiana. At Noi the academic focus will be threefold: computer science, actual engineering (construction and mechanics), electronics.
«We are on the home stretch», confirms the CEO of Noi Techpark, the department director of the President of the Province, Ulrich Stofner. «The two projects, engineering faculty and new expansion buildings, proceed in parallel».
Engineering.
The new faculty, Stofner specifies, will be ready for the new academic year, starting in October. The move will begin in August and will last for a few weeks until September.” The current faculty with an engineering part in it, Stofner recalls, is called technique and nature. «It was very important to create a new faculty, with what the territory needs. With foresight it was decided that three institutes will be located there. The first is computer science, current information technology, which from autumn will be part of engineering. Then, as a second hub, there will be the current engineering faculty: construction, mechanics. The third institute will focus on the new topic of electronics. Put together, the three institutes will form the new engineering faculty with a focus on automation, robotics and artificial intelligence. These will be the three key points.” This is what Alto Adige needed, «a territory which already boasts numerous excellences in these areas».
The numbers are important, not just the new building. «With the engineering move – he underlines – over 1,100 people will arrive here, including 850 students. If we add the 1,200-1,300 people of the Noi Tech Park to the university component, we understand how important the new center will be, the second fundamental location of the university.
Two more “black cubes”
Moving on to the buildings on the side of via Gianni Brida, «we – clarifies Stofner – call them D2 and D3. D1 was inaugurated in 2019. These are the expansion buildings behind the old, architecturally rationalist part where the incubators are located.” D1 is now followed by D2 and D3. «The first new building will be dedicated to food and nutrition, in short the food industry. It will also house the student canteen and an important international fermentation center led by Professor Gobetti, as well as a very important Laimburg laboratory on the topic of meat. Various food companies were also present.”
The second new building, however, «will be mainly dedicated to green: green technologies. It will host companies that revolve around this theme.”
The intention is to inaugurate both buildings in June. “The move is happening now.” In short, D2 and D3 will be operational for the summer.
And so, at Noi Techpark, including the new engineering faculty, we will go from the current 1,200-1,300 people to almost 2,500.
For the two new buildings the investment was approximately 30 million. Two more expansion modules are planned. Once the current phase, 2, has closed, phase 3, the last, will begin. «It involves the addition of two more buildings, D4 and D5. At the moment we are discussing to finalize the financing.”
An important fact: the new councilor responsible for the Noi Techpark, the university and research, is Philipp Achammer, who replaces Arno Kompatscher. A dedicated councillor, so to speak. “In fact it’s a bit like this – says Stofner – councilor Achammer is enthusiastic about the project and intends to carry it forward”. The two new future buildings, «according to plans, will host the digital and automation themes. In the same building, monothematic, several excellences will be hosted. An organization that can inspire innovation.”
