Rain, wind, cold and even snow. That is, autumn in its purest form. The weather forecast indicates that this week marked by the All Saints’ holiday, from Wednesday to Sunday, there will be bad weather in Gipuzkoa. Both Euskalmet and Aemet agree in announcing windy days, with rainfall and even a snow level that will drop to 1,000 meters on Thursday, so mountain ranges such as Aizkorri or Aralar could receive the first flakes of the season. As the saying went: All Saints’ Day, snow on the heights.

With the exception of this Monday and tomorrow, which are expected to be dry, the rest of the week is expected to be rainy, although Wednesday is the day with the least rainfall, according to the forecasts. The rainiest days will be, by far, Thursday and Friday, with showers that could be stormy.

Therefore, November will begin along similar lines to the one that ended in October. And last Thursday the rain left records never before known in the 21st century corresponding to the tenth month of the year. The 62 liters per square meter registered in Oñati and the 66.7 in Zegama are a milestone. In the first of the municipalities, the previous record in the last 25 years in the month of October dated back to 1999, with 47.7 liters. In Zegama, for its part, the previous mark dated from 2020, with 58.4 liters in 24 hours.

But not only will it rain, but the wind will pick up. So unpleasant days are expected. So much so that the Directorate of Emergency Assistance and Meteorology of the Basque Government will activate the orange alert this Wednesday for winds of more than 120 kilometers per hour from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, as reported by the Basque Department of Security.

According to Euskalmet forecasts, southwesterly wind gusts in exposed areas can exceed 120 km/h, especially in western mountain areas, while in non-exposed areas they could reach 100 km/h.

Exposed areas

In addition, from midnight to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the yellow wind warning will be activated in exposed areas, given the forecast of southwesterly gusts of more than 100 km/h in exposed areas of Bizkaia and Álava, especially in areas of west mountain.

For its part, in exposed areas of Gipuzkoa the gusts can be around 80-100 km/h. In unexposed areas of Bizkaia and Álava, wind gusts can be around 70-80 km/h and 50-70 km/h in unexposed areas of Gipuzkoa.

The yellow warning for risk of wind will be activated again from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., when southwest wind gusts can exceed 100 km/h in exposed areas, especially in western mountain areas, and 80 km/h h in unexposed areas.
