For this weekend, intense gusts of wind are expected, which should reach the southern part of Brazil, in particular Rio Grande do Sul. Air currents can exceed 50 km/h and, at some points, can reach 70 km/h or more.

The regions that should be most affected by the passage of the phenomenon that will trigger the gusts of wind are the north, west and south of Rio Grande do Sul. Areas of Santa Catarina and Paraná will also feel the effects of the winds.

On average, the speed of the wind gusts should reach 40 km/h to 60 km/h, but specific points in Rio Grande do Sul may have more severe events, exceeding 70 km/h. The phenomenon should start at dusk on Saturday the 22nd, as the increase in temperature will influence the formation of winds.

Other countries prepare to face strong winds

O Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology issued a warning to the population about the possibility of strong winds in the northern part of the country. “From the afternoon and evening of Friday until the afternoon and evening of Saturday, sustained winds from the north are expected with strong gusts that will affect the entire national territory. This event will be accompanied by an increase in temperatures”, says the published note.

Even with the winds, there is no forecast of rain. What should happen, in fact, is the increase in temperatures throughout Rio Grande do Sul. The afternoons of tomorrow and Sunday 23rd should be 25°C to 28°C in most municipalities and 28°C to 30°C in several points, especially in the West Frontier, in the northwest and in the center of the state. In some places, the temperature can exceed 30°C, even during winter.

The heat tends to subside on Monday with instability in part of the state, as in the south of Rio Grande do Sul.
