The weight and influence of journalism in Spanish in the United States is being debated

Organized by the Cádiz Press Association (APC) and the Inter-American Press Association (SIP), the latter based in Miami, the event will address the status and projection of journalism in Spanish in the US in two panels in in which practicing journalists and US media directors will participate.

The SIP indicated in a statement that the debate will focus on two essential questions: “Has journalism in Spanish achieved the acceptance and recognition of the public and the US press?” and “Adaptation of US Spanish-language media to digital changes.”

The report from the internet portal highlights that Hispanic American culture and, in particular, the Spanish-language media, are in “a moment of expansion in North America”, despite the difficulties of the press industry in general.

According to the projections of the Cervantes Institute, the United States will be the second Spanish-speaking country in the world by 2060, after Mexico, and 27.5% of the US population will be of Hispanic origin.

The panelists of the first round table are Leopoldo Gómez, president of Noticias Univision; Cynthia Hudson, director of the television channel CNN en Español, and Armando Varela, editorial director of The opinion from Los Angeles, California.

The journalist Sonia Osorio, from the daily The New Heraldand Florida International University (FIU) journalism professor Alejandro Alvarado Bremer.

The second panel will feature the participation of Patsy Loris, Vice President of Telemundo News; Rafael Cores, vice president of digital content at ImpreMedia; Manuel Aguilera, editorial director of Americano Media; Ileana Labastida, director of Newspaper Las Americasand José Zamora, executive of Exile Content Studio.

Open to the public and free admission, the journalistic event will take place starting at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) at the Indigo Miami Brickell hotel, located in the financial center of this city.

The IX International Congress of the Spanish Language was held from March 27 to 30 in Cádiz and had the participation of the kings of Spain and personalities of culture, arts and letters from the Spanish-speaking world.

The conference will be inaugurated by the vice president of the APC, Mabel Caballero, and by the executive director of the IAPA, Ricardo Trotti.
