Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account, which has 73 million followers, was hacked • At the time of the hack, a tweet surfaced claiming that India had adopted Bitcoin as an official currency • The tweet was quickly deleted

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account was “briefly hacked” on Sunday. This was reported by his office.

Moody’s account, which has more than 73 million followers, received a tweet after midnight announcing that India had officially adopted Bitcoin as legal tender, and that the government had bought 500 Bitcoin coins – equivalent to $ 24 million, and intended to divide them among the residents. Alongside this, there was a link to a blog on the subject.

According to a report in News 12, the tweet was quickly deleted, and the Prime Minister’s Office said that Moody’s account was completely secure, and that any tweet that came up at the time of the break-in should be ignored.

The announcement allegedly aroused suspicion because at the end of last month India’s finance minister, Nirmala Sirthman, stated that the administration would not recognize Bitcoin as a currency in the country.

This is the second time in less than two years that Moody’s account has been hacked.
