The west coast of south america It is becoming a preferred destination for neopanamax (NPX) vessels coming from Asia. This achievement is significant as it represents a capacity of 928,000 TEU or 39% of all new container shipping capacity to be added to the fleet this year.

According to Alphaliner, fifteen vessels (23.9%) have been assigned to various North-South services, corresponding to the Asia – Latin America route. The percentage of new NPX capacity allocated to North-South services is expected to increase further.

It is important to highlight that the Far East – West Coast of South America (WCSA) route has become a preferred deployment area for NPX. Of the 119 container ships currently sailing between Asia and WCSA, 40 of them are between 13,000 and 16,550 TEU in size.
