The dead are counted in the thousands, without it being known precisely what is the exact toll of the human hecatomb in Ukraine. After a hundred days of fighting and bombing, the various intelligence services put forward figures of 15,000 and 25,000 on both sides. This conventional war hides another, food, which ultimately condemns millions of individuals to food insecurity. Russia, the world’s leading wheat exporter, alone accounts for 18% of trade and Ukraine for more than 10%. In the next harvest, kyiv yields are expected to drop by 50% to 70% at best. Current stocks are stuck in Black Sea ports and rotting in silos when not pounded by Russian bombs.
