Jake Smith, aka The White Buffalo, describes the new work live:
This album spans my entire career, over 20 years of songwriting and performing. With over a hundred songs to choose from, some of them I wrote in my twenties, while others were only born years ago. We selected the crowd favorites and made some deep cuts to give them new life.” Add: “We also did a completely reworked adaptation of the song ‘House of the Rising Sun’. I wanted to create a definitive version that was all ours and representative of our sound, offering a new alternative to the original ‘Sons of Anarchy’ version. This album has all the emotion and passion of the live experience, it’s visceral, in a way that can’t be achieved in the studio. What we do live is very different to the studio albums. Pure and raw, no background tracks, no auto-tune and not perfect, it’s the three of us at our best, us in our purest form..

“A Freight Train Through The Night” was recorded live on March 1st and 2nd at Belly-Up in San Diego and features Jake reuniting with his band, including Christopher Hoffee (bass/keyboards/guitar) and Matt Lynott (drums). The White Buffalo brought in Mike Butler (The Rolling Stones, Reba McEntire, Phoebe Bridgers) to record and mix the album live. Smith states: “You can feel the energy of the audience, that circular push and pull, between the crowd and the stage. It’s unique every night, every show. It’s that love and that flow that feeds all of us. We’re in this together and you can really feel it on these recordings. We have a long history with Belly-Up and we brought in Mike Butler to capture the audio and mix it, so this album sounds like you’re in the room.”

THE WHITE BUFFALO is in the midst of a headlining tour in the US through September, with a European tour in October and their first South American tour in December.
