MADRID, 1 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed this Sunday the death of four Palestinians after an Israeli air strike against the interior of the Al Aqsa Martyrs hospital, in the Gazan town of Deir. al Balá, in the center of the enclave.

“A WHO team was on a humanitarian mission today at the Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza when a tent inside the hospital complex was hit by an Israeli attack. Four people were killed and 17 were wounded.” Tedros reported on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

All members of the WHO team, who were assessing the center’s needs and recovering incubators to send them to the north of the enclave, have been located.

“We once again call for protection for patients, healthcare personnel and humanitarian missions. The continued attacks and militarization of hospitals must end. International Humanitarian Law must be respected. We urge the parties to comply with the Council resolution Security Council and cease fire,” added Tedros.

On the other hand, he has assured that at least 21 patients have died in Al Shifa Hospital since Israeli troops began to besiege it on March 18. Since then, Israel has reported the identification or death of several alleged senior officials of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) within it.

“21 patients have died since the hospital came under siege on March 18. Hostilities continue around the hospital, according to a health worker from Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza. 107 patients are in an inadequate building, inside of the hospital compound, without the necessary health support, medical care and supplies. Patients have been transferred several times within the hospital compound since the siege began,” Tedros added.

It should be noted that among the patients there are at least four children and 28 injured people in critical condition, and none of them are receiving the necessary medical attention as a result of the lack of diapers, urine bags or water. Both dehydration and malnutrition, together with unhealthy conditions, are facilitating the spread of diseases in the facility.

“We urge Israel to urgently facilitate access and a humanitarian corridor so that WHO and its partners can carry out life-saving patient transfers. We repeat: every moment matters. Ceasefire!” Tedros added .

Palestinian doctors and humanitarian organizations such as the Palestinian Red Crescent have denounced the harshness exhibited by the Israeli military during their assaults on hospitals in the Strip, which according to Israel are regularly used by Hamas militiamen to hide from Israeli troops.

Israel began an offensive against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in response to its attacks on October 7, which left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages. Since then, Palestinian authorities have reported the deaths of nearly 32,800 people, including around 440 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem due to the actions of Israeli security forces and settlers.
