FC Porto confirmed this Wednesday the relegation of David Carmo to team B, following alleged “inappropriate behavior” in the work session.

After the defeat in Lisbon, FC Porto’s seventh official defeat of the season, Sérgio Conceição wanted to bring the group together and understand what was on the minds of each of his athletes. There was no work on the pitch, but rather reflection in the dressing room, with the coach taking the floor and handing it over later to the players who wanted to use it.
David Carmo was one of those who requested it. Given the openness demonstrated by the technical team, the central defender made a point of conveying two messages: does not feel supported by the group and regrets the difference in treatment which is reserved for other members of the squad.
They assure us that there was no lack of politeness on either side and that the tone was generally peaceful. Naturally, David Carmo’s laments surprised those who heard them, especially because the former SC Braga is normally a very reserved young man and only close to a minority of his teammates.
Several footballers said what was in their hearts and, apparently, the conversation ended in a tone of agreement. The exception was, as can be seen, these explicit laments by Carmo.
At the time, no one responsible for FC Porto informed the athlete that he would start working with team B. This indication came later, via telephone, after a decision taken «in harmony with the Administration and the Football Department».
We insist: there was no indiscipline in any training exercise, nor any verbal excess towards the technical team, on David Carmo’s part. There was, indeed, an outburst (or several) in front of the entire group that was considered “inadequate” by those who decided at FC Porto.
David Carmo’s immediate future involves the B team, at least until January. The situation may be reviewed if the parties get closer. For now, Pepe, Fábio Cardoso and Zé Pedro are the central defenders available to Sérgio Conceição.
