/ Asmaa Mohammed, the wife of the former leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said on Friday that her husband had a severe fear of American drones and planes, noting that al-Baghdadi was inclined towards the Muslim Brotherhood’s ideology, while he accused Jabhat al-Nusra of treason and al-Qaeda of apostasy and misguided thinking.
Abuse and sale of female captives
Asma responded to the accusations of the Yazidi Siban Khalil, who stated that al-Baghdadi’s wife was abusing the captives, trading them, and also bringing them to her husband.
Asma indicated that the Yazidi Siban’s statements were “false”, and that she treated her well as if she were a member of the family, and defended herself, saying: “I am educated and I did not abuse the captives as Siban Khalil said.”
Al-Baghdadi’s first wife also spoke in her interview about Al-Baghdadi’s daily life after delivering his famous speech in Nineveh. According to her, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi “was open-minded and not extremist. He used to read books and carry a computer with him. He issued a decision to ban phones in his house and took her mobile phone from her since 2008.”
She added, “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi used to give her $100 a month to meet household needs.”
In response to the accusation that she sold young captives, Asmaa Mohammed pointed out that “the Raqqa slave market is a stain of shame on the history of ISIS,” and she denied selling young captives in the market.
Kayla Mueller and the Story of Ibn al-Baghdadi
Regarding the case of Kayla Mueller, the American aid worker, Asma Mohammed said, “Kayla Mueller is like al-Baghdadi’s other wives, and there is no difference between her kidnapping and the kidnapping of the other captives,” adding, “I only met her once.”
When asked about the details of her son Hudhaifa’s marriage, she indicated that “his marriage at the age of fifteen was a farce,” because he was a child at the time, despite carrying a weapon.
Asmaa said that she was against the idea of her son getting married at such a young age, and she also refused his marriage to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s daughter, but in the end he married her niece.
She said, “Her son Hudhayfah was killed and she does not know the location of his body until now.”
ISIS currency
Al-Baghdadi’s wife touched on several aspects regarding her husband, as she confirmed that he was suffering from psychological problems when he was released from prison, and he had an intense fear of American marches and planes, and he used to ask us to stay in safe places for fear of being arrested.
When asked about the ISIS currency, Asmaa Mohammed said, “The organization was trying to impose it on people and it was a reality.”
“He was inclined towards the Brotherhood’s ideology… and he declared Al-Nusra infidels and accused Al-Qaeda of misguidance.”
Regarding Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, Asmaa Muhammad said that her husband was inclined towards the Brotherhood’s ideology and that he had betrayed the Nusra Front and accused al-Qaeda of apostasy and deviant thought.
Asmaa said that she was “shocked after her husband prevented her from praying for mercy for her father, questioning his religion.”
She said, “He prevented me from praying for mercy for my father,” and these doubts led Asma to doubt her faith, according to her expression.
“A child ISIS member stopped me because of my hijab”
Al-Baghdadi’s first wife spoke about a situation she experienced in Mosul when a child ISIS member stopped her because of her hijab. She told Al-Baghdadi about the situation and said: “The Hisbah was a disaster.”
She revealed that most of the ISIS members were from Morocco, Tunisia and Libya, and that foreign nationalities controlled the organization.
When asked about Al-Adnani, she said, “His words contributed to attracting foreign fighters into the organization.”
Behind the scenes of the Caliph’s wives’ deception
Asmaa Mohammed also narrated the details of her dispute with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s Syrian wife, and said that she controlled his children to the point that she would scold them for watching cartoons, and that she branded his children with shame for violating the ISIS approach.
It is noteworthy that Asmaa Muhammad was arrested in Turkey in June 2018, in the Turkish province of Hatay, which borders Syria, but the Turkish authorities did not announce her arrest before November 2019.
Ankara revealed at the time that al-Baghdadi’s widow had been arrested along with ten other people, including his daughter Laila, while a Turkish official said at the time that she was al-Baghdadi’s “first wife.”
The official also noted that she “provided a lot of information about al-Baghdadi and the organization’s internal work.” Turkish media reported at the time that the wife’s name was Asma Fawzi Muhammad al-Kubaisi.
Last week, the Iraqi judicial authorities announced the interrogation of the “family” of the former leader of ISIS, explaining that they were brought back from outside the country, without specifying or giving further details. The statement published on the website of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council did not specify the number of members of al-Baghdadi’s family who were arrested, their identities, or from which country they were brought back.
A judicial source said that “the intelligence service, in cooperation with the Turkish authorities, “recovered al-Baghdadi’s wife and children,” adding that “she was detained in Turkey.”
