Wife of Gilgo Beach Serial Killings Suspect Speaks Out

The wife of Rex Heuermann, the suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings, has broken her silence about her husband’s alleged actions. In an interview with CNN, Asa Ellerup and her attorney revealed that she had “no idea” about her husband’s alleged crimes and that the public attention surrounding the case has been “extremely overwhelming” for Ellerup and her two children.

Since Heuermann’s arrest, the days have been “chaotic” for Ellerup and her children. Investigators have searched every corner of their New York home, and the property has been swarmed by media and curious onlookers. Ellerup has described the state of their home as being torn apart, with belongings scattered everywhere.

Ellerup, who has filed for divorce from Heuermann, told the New York Post that she and her children are struggling to cope with the situation. She mentioned that her children cry themselves to sleep, and their home is in disarray. The family has received support, including from the daughter of serial killer Keith Hunter Jesperson.

Heuermann is expected to appear in court for his first hearing since his arrest. He has pleaded not guilty in the killings of three of the “Gilgo Four.” Authorities believe he is also the prime suspect in the disappearance and killing of the fourth victim, but he has not been charged in that case yet.

During the investigation of Heuermann’s home, authorities uncovered “quite a lot of evidence.” They collected a massive amount of material, including weapons, and used a backhoe and ground-penetrating radar to search the yard. Ellerup’s attorney said that everything in the house was turned upside down, and numerous items were taken by investigators.

The flood of attention on the family has attracted onlookers who visit their home to get a glimpse of what’s going on. Ellerup has requested privacy for her family as they try to regain some normalcy in their lives.

Authorities are actively investigating whether Heuermann may have had more victims. They have looked into properties he owns in South Carolina and Nevada. While there was initially speculation about a possible link between Heuermann and the unsolved killings of four sex workers near Atlantic City in 2006, Suffolk County police now believe he is not connected to those cases.

As the legal process unfolds for Heuermann, Ellerup and her children continue to grapple with the aftermath of the revelations about their husband and father. The attorney expressed hope that they can eventually find some semblance of normalcy in their lives.
