Kalutara – A woman was shot dead in the Matugama area in the Baligaveedi area in the Matugama police division.
A 38-year-old woman from the Matugama area was shot dead and the motive for the murder is not known, according to the police media unit.
However, it was revealed that three persons had come to carry out the shooting.
During a search operation conducted by the Kalutara Criminal Investigation Division, 6 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
The body of the deceased woman has been placed at the Kalutara-Nagoda Hospital for an autopsy after a preliminary magisterial examination was conducted by the Matugama Magistrate.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects had come to kill the husband of the deceased woman.
Although the husband was at home when the shooting took place, the man escaped.
The Matugama Police are conducting further investigations into the motive behind the murder, the suspects and the firearm used by them, the police media unit said.
