New Delhi,

The 13th Women’s World Boxing Championship will be held from today (Wednesday) to the 26th at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Delhi. 350 athletes from 74 countries are participating in 12 body weight categories in this competition for a total prize money of Rs.20 crore. It will include 8 leading Olympic medalists. This is the 3rd time that this tournament is being held in India. Already in 2006 and 2018, Women’s World Boxing has been held in Delhi.

12 athletes are jumping in Gotha on behalf of India. Prominent among them are Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), last world championship gold medalist Nikath Zareen (50 kg), and Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nitu Hongas (48 kg). Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, International Boxing Association President Omar Kremliv and many others will attend the opening ceremony. Doordarshan telecasts the match live.

Will the tournament be a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics? There is confusion. The decision has not yet been announced due to a conflict between the International Olympic Council and the International Boxing Association over who will host the Olympic qualifiers.
