MADRID, 20 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The World Bank has approved aid of 450 million dollars (about 412 million euros) to support the “ambitious” reform of the health system proposed by the Government of Morocco with the aim of improving public health in the country.

“Improving access to quality health care for all is an essential condition for inclusive socioeconomic development and human capital accumulation. This loan will lay the foundation for a health care system that will continually measure and improve access to and quality of care for all”, declared the director of the World Bank for the Maghreb and Malta, Jesko Hentschel.

In addition, the World Bank has described this reform as “one of the most ambitious and complete in the world”, according to the Moroccan news portal Hespress.

The aid will broaden coverage in underserved areas, improve the availability of “high-quality” health services and strengthen the medical workforce.

The program will also “expand training for health workers, create performance incentives, and allow for routine quality assessments at the regional level.”

Another of the objectives is to improve the governance of the health system through decentralization, as well as to strengthen data platforms to facilitate their access and collaboration, in addition to taking into account “climate vulnerability, gender equity and citizen participation”.
