The world faces serious challenges in terms of global warming; There must be urgent interventions: Antonio Guterres

New York: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for urgent intervention to control global warming. He said that the world is facing serious challenges in terms of global warming and this crisis can be overcome only through effective actions to prevent climate change.

Guterres shared his concerns about global warming while addressing a virtual meeting on climate change in Interlaken, Switzerland. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is meeting in Interlaken to finalize the seven reports produced since the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Representatives from 195 countries are participating in the meeting.

“The world is at a turning point. The world is heading towards a serious crisis from which there is no return. “Exceeding the internationally agreed global warming limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius will have far-reaching consequences,” Guterres said.

Guterres expressed his displeasure with world leaders’ slow pace on the issue, noting that reducing the use of fossil fuels is difficult but essential for climate balance and that reducing carbon emissions can limit the extent of global warming.
