Al-Marsad Newspaper: The World Health Organization called for the need to completely refrain from using sugar substitutes, in order to control weight.

The experts concluded that sugar substitutes, “artificial sweeteners”, do not provide any long-term benefit in reducing the percentage of body fat accumulated in adults or children.

Long-term use of sweeteners can contribute to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other disorders in adults, according to Medical Xpress.

Sugar substitutes include: aspartame, advantam, cyclamate, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia, and the list did not include high-calorie sugar alcohols such as polyols.

The organization called on young and old to use sugar (glucose and fructose) and others, at a rate of no more than 10% of the daily calories, which allows weight loss and the prevention of tooth decay.

The World Health Organization indicated that the best option, according to experts, is to completely refrain from eating sweets since childhood.
