The world knows that November 27 is a day to remember the terrorists, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). In this context, it is a punishable offense for Tamil politicians to seek to remember them as public. Said Foreign Minister GLpeiris.

He said this while commenting to a Tamil newspaper today.

Permission was granted to observe Heroes’ Week during the reign of good governance. Minister GL Peiris was responding to a question raised by the media as to why permission was not granted at present.

He further commented,

The government has never banned the commemoration of civilians killed in the war. But the government will never allow the commemoration of terrorists who lost their lives in the war.

The police act according to the law. Police have obtained injunctions through the courts to prevent the commemoration of such terrorists. This is not intended to avenge anyone. The police are doing their duty properly.

Therefore, our government will not allow the commemoration of the terrorist LTTE under any circumstances. Our government will not violate the law of the land for the reason that the good governance government has given permission to commemorate the terrorists.

The country is in a bad state today due to some unacceptable actions of the government of good governance. Our government is engaged in activities to restore the country.

Remembering terrorists is an improper act if there is to be ethnic reconciliation in the country. Foreign Minister GL Peiris has said that this will lead to inter-ethnic hatred.

It is noteworthy that GL Peiris chaired the State Committee for Talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Government of Sri Lanka during the period when the peace agreement was in force.
