93 artists from all walks of life sign a column in L’Humanité to demand an end to hostilities in Gaza, while retaliation by the Jewish state continues in the Gaza Strip.

Two weeks after the Hamas attack in Israel, and while the Jewish state’s response continues, 93 personalities sign a column in L’Humanité to call for an “immediate ceasefire in Gaza”.

Abd Al Malik, Juliette Binoche, Romane Bohringer, Eric Cantona, Rokhaya Diallo, Adèle Haenel, Reda Kateb, Paola Locatelli, Guillaume Meurice, Anna Mouglalis, Niels Schneider, Céline Sciamma, Justine Triet, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Sofiane Zermani… Actors, directors, singers, rappers and journalists, from different generations and worlds, mix their voices “in the face of the ongoing tragedy”, “shocked by the loss of all these precious lives in Israel/Palestine”.

“We support all those calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in order to save as many lives as possible and allow humanitarian aid to reach the people of Gaza,” they write, also calling for “ the release of all hostages in Gaza.”

As reported by AFP, around 220 hostages of all ages, Israeli, foreign or binational, have been held in Gaza since the bloody attack by Hamas in Israel, during which the Islamist movement left some 1,400 dead, the majority of whom were civilians. including 30 French.

In retaliation, Israel has been shelling the Gaza Strip since that date to “annihilate” Hamas, an organization that controls Gaza and considered terrorist by many Western countries. The latter reports a death toll exceeding 5,000 in the territory since the start of Israeli bombings, including more than 2,000 children.

Condemn “oppression and racism, in all their forms”

“We were horrified by the massacres of October 7,” we can read in the column of L’Humanité. “We condemn all war crimes, those of Hamas and those of the Israeli government. We believe that oppression and racism, in all their forms, are an affront to our common humanity: they must be put an end to.”

“Today, decades of occupation deprive Palestinians of their fundamental rights and freedoms,” they continue. “We call on everyone to respect international law, which prohibits harm to civilians – regardless of the context. All governments must stop supporting serious violations of international law and arming their perpetrators.”

Emmanuel Macron is traveling to Israel this Tuesday, to meet the families of the victims, to speak with President Isaac Herzog and then with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will then travel to the West Bank for a meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority.
