Doha: The world’s largest electric bus depot, which can park 478 buses, has started operations in Qatar. The new bus depot was inaugurated by Minister of Transport Jassim Saif Ahmad Al Sulaiti.

The area of ​​the state-of-the-art electric bus depot which has started functioning in Lusail City is more than four lakh square meters. Apart from the bus bays, there are 24 multi-purpose buildings, recreational facilities, grease spaces and sub-stations. It will also generate four megawatts of electricity from 11,000 solar panels spread over 25,000 square meters. Officials informed that the electricity required for the buildings in the depot can be obtained from here.

The second zone houses the accommodation for the staff of the depot. The accommodation is equipped as per international standards and has facilities for 1400 people. There are dining and other recreational facilities for employees, church, administration building, services building, guard houses and other facilities.

The third zone has systems for electric buses under the Bus Rapid Transit scheme. 24 bus bays and the same number of chargers are equipped here. There will also be systems for maintenance, cleaning, vacuuming and inspections of buses.

Apart from this, there is also a dedicated Operation Control Center (OCC) at the new bus depot. All bus operations will be monitored and controlled from this operation control center set up on 39,000 square meters. Officials have informed that this operation center will start functioning by next year.
