Injured and absent during Belgium-Sweden on Monday evening, the Belgian international posted a worried message after the attack which struck Brussels.
This Monday evening at the Roi-Baudoin stadium, the Belgium-Sweden match counting for the Euro 2024 qualifiers had to be stopped at half-time (with a score of 1-1). For security reasons following the attack in the center of Brussels, killing two people, the players and the public remained in the Brussels stadium for several minutes before a secure evacuation.
Belgian international Thomas Meunier did not experience this night of anxiety up close since a hamstring injury deprived him of the selection rally. From Dortmund where he has been playing since 2020, he however reacted to the tragic events of the evening on his account X. «And the worst is undoubtedly to come… Let us pray for the victims and the people badly influenced by the erroneous teaching of a religion. May God help them find the right path. he declared, not without concern.
After a night of searching, Brussels police arrested the suspect in the attack this Tuesday morning, according to the latest information. The assailant died from his injuries.
