Canon Ernő Fülöp – who also celebrated the Holy Mass – blessed the young people participating in the World Youth Meeting in Lisbon before their departure in the church in Soroksár.
The history of the World Youth Meetings dates back to Palm Sunday 1984, when St. II. Pope János Pál invited young people to Rome to celebrate together the end of the extraordinary Holy Year of Redemption. Later, in his letter, the Pope invited all the young people of the world to a meeting, and then officially initiated the celebration of World Youth Days. Each meeting had a national anthem, which was initially sung in the language of the host country, and later in more and more other languages.
This year, the event will be hosted in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. The event, consisting of preliminary and main meetings, takes place between July 26 and August 6. Until July 31, preliminary meetings will take place in the organization of Portuguese dioceses and international spiritual movements.
The main program awaits the participants between August 1st and 6th.
The target audience of the meeting is the group of young people between the ages of 18 and 35.
