Kochi: A homeo medicine shop owner has been arrested on a complaint that he sexually assaulted a young woman and extorted five lakh rupees by threatening to record the footage and spread it through social media. TN Nawaz (46) was arrested at Edappally North Kunnumpura Thamarassery house, who runs a company called Homeo Zone-1 at Edappally Toll. The arrest was based on a complaint filed by the woman on August 10. The accused was produced in court and remanded.
The woman met Nawaz in 2014 while working in the city. In February 2021, Nawaz started Homeo Zone-1 at Edappally Toll. Nawaz had no knowledge of homeopathic medicines. It was the young woman who helped Nawaz to open the shop.
In March 2021, Nawaz allegedly sexually assaulted and filmed the scene of a young woman who called him to his homeo shop in Edappally Toll to take stock. According to the complaint given to the police, the woman used these videos to sexually assault her several times. The harassment continued until June. Later, when he did not give in, he beat her and threatened her husband and demanded Rs. 10 lakhs. With this, five lakh rupees were paid.
The woman also says that the former office-bearer of the Traders and Industry Coordinating Committee unit tried to mediate on behalf of Nawaz. The husband paid Rs 5 lakh by taking a loan. In her complaint to the police, the woman said that when she did not pay the remaining money, she called her relatives and friends to slander her, made a false complaint against her organization to higher authorities and was afraid to go out.
