Kokitthura (Kanyakumari) ∙ The assailants tied the young woman to a telephone post when she questioned the teasing. After being tied up for an hour, the police arrived and released the woman. Fearing the attackers, the locals did not intervene. An incident that shocked the conscience of the community took place at Melppuram Junction in Kanyakumari district. Shashi (47), Vinod (44) and Vijayakanth (37), natives of Pakot and auto drivers, were arrested in the incident.
The woman, who runs a private firm in Marthanda, was the victim of humiliation and harassment. The woman (35) whose husband died lives with her mother. The police said that there had been an incident where these auto drivers had mocked the woman before. This was repeated the other day when the woman left at around 9 am. When they questioned about this, they joined the group and tied up the young woman.
