A youth who had come to participate in the manhood competition in Vadalur died after suffocating while eating.
A state-level matchmaking competition was held at a private wedding hall in Vadalur, Cuddalore district on Sunday. Youths from different regions participated in the competition.
Mathiayan’s son Hariharan (21), who lived in Mariamman Koil Street, Periya Kollampatti, Salem District, was training at around 8 o’clock in the night to participate in the 70 kg weight category. He ate roti (bread) in between.

Then a piece of bread got stuck in the esophagus and he was suffocated.
The people there took him to Kurinchipadi Government Hospital. But he died on the way. Vadalur police are investigating the matter.
