Interview with Dr. Miriam El-Hakim: Understanding hezbollah’s Position on Israeli Actions in Syria
Time.news Editor: Thank you for joining us today, Dr. El-Hakim. With recent statements by Hezbollah regarding Israel’s actions in Syria, can you elaborate on the importance of these comments in the broader regional context?
Dr. Miriam El-Hakim: Thank you for having me. Hezbollah’s declaration regarding Israel’s occupation of additional syrian territory highlights not only the ongoing tension between Israel adn its neighboring countries but also reflects a growing concern among Arab and Islamic nations about the implications of Israeli military activities. The situation is precarious, especially considering the historical context of Israeli operations in the region, which many view as an attempt to assert dominance and reshape political dynamics to its advantage.
Time.news Editor: You mentioned political dynamics. How does Hezbollah view the silence from Arab and global communities regarding these Israeli actions?
Dr.Miriam El-Hakim: hezbollah is clearly frustrated by what it perceives as a deafening silence from both Arab and international entities. This silence is interpreted as complicity or, at the very least, a lack of support for Syria and its people amid what they classify as genocidal attacks—particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.By asserting that Arab and Islamic nations must reject this occupation, Hezbollah urges a collective response to protect Syrian sovereignty and the rights of the Palestinian people.
Time.news Editor: what implications do Hezbollah’s statements have for Syrian sovereignty and its political landscape?
Dr. Miriam El-Hakim: Hezbollah’s call to reject foreign occupation is essentially a rallying cry for Syrian nationalism and unity against external influences. The group emphasizes the importance of the Syrian government being able to dictate its own political destiny, free from foreign pressures—particularly from Western nations, which are frequently enough perceived to back Israel. This reflects a broader sentiment among many populations in the Middle East that seeks to end foreign interference and foster a self-resolute future.
Time.news Editor: In light of these developments, what practical steps can Arab nations and the international community take to support this vision?
Dr. Miriam El-Hakim: Arab countries must unify their stances against such occupations and advocate for the rights of affected nations. practical measures can include diplomatic efforts to pressure international bodies like the United Nations to take actionable steps against these aggressions. Additionally, supporting grassroots movements in support of Palestinian rights and fostering dialog within the region could help to build a more cohesive response against perceived injustices.
Time.news Editor: With the current state of affairs, how do you see the future of Hezbollah’s role in the region?
Dr. Miriam El-Hakim: Hezbollah is likely to continue positioning itself as a defender of Arab rights against Israeli incursions. Their role will depend significantly on regional politics, including relations with Iran, Syria, and other militant groups. They may also enhance their focus on gaining grassroots support in response to the broader public outcry over Israeli policies, further solidifying their influence in Lebanese and wider Arab affairs.
