38 million medicines of the 14 therapeutic groups of the national basic table were acquired with this investment
The Zonal Coordination 9-Health, which covers the Metropolitan District of Quito, since June 2022 has invested more than USD 7 million in the purchase of centralized medicines from the electronic catalog to guarantee the supply of its health establishments. So far in 2023, the third distribution of medicines is taking place in the capital.
Paúl Domínguez, specialist in Medicines and Medical Devices of Zone 9 of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), explains that to date 7 centralized purchase processes for medicines have been carried out, generating a total of 348 purchase orders for 38 million medicines corresponding to medicines from the 14 therapeutic groups of the National Table of Basic Medicines, which includes drugs for hypertension, diabetes, hypothyroidism, oncological diseases, for pain, antibiotics, among others.
Currently, partial deliveries of the fourth, fifth and sixth processes are being carried out. This is the third distribution of 2023 and includes the delivery of 26 medicines for a supply period of between 1 and 12 months, depending on the process carried out by the suppliers.
“Thanks to purchases by electronic catalogue, we guarantee our users the necessary medication for their treatments. We have an adequate supply in the MSP establishments in the Metropolitan District of Quito”, adds Ana Paulina Coronel, Zonal 9-Health coordinator.
The National Government establishes as a priority the supply of medicines for 2023 and thus strengthen comprehensive health care for the population and bring services closer to priority groups in each community in the territory.
