The Theatertreffen is one of the major stage festivals. This time the Bulgarian-born Samouil Stoyanov won over the jury with the piece “humanistää!” convinced.

The actor Samouil Stoyanov received an award at the Berlin Theatertreffen. He received the Alfred Kerr Actor Award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros. He was honored for his performance in “humanistää!”, a production at the Vienna Volkstheater.

“Samouil Stoyanov, what a lump of precision and grace,” said juror Valery Cheplanova on Sunday. He turns Ernst Jandl’s clever, sparse sentences into a thoughtful power monologue, sweats the language.

Again with an audience

The Theatertreffen is one of the major stage festivals. Every year, a jury invites what it considers to be the ten most remarkable productions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The festival took place with an audience for the first time in three years.

The Alfred Kerr Prize is awarded to a young actress or actor who has attracted attention with an outstanding performance in one of the plays invited. The Bulgarian-born Stoyanov grew up in Linz, where his parents run a ballet school, the Theatertreffen announced. He studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and then belonged to the ensemble of the Munich Kammerspiele for several years.

Berlin Theater Prize for Amelie Deuflhard

Several awards are presented at the Theatertreffen every year. This time the Berlin Theater Prize went to the theater producer and director of Kampnagel in Hamburg, Amelie Deuflhard. She is honored for her special services to German-language theatre. The prize of the Prussian Maritime Trade Foundation is endowed with 20,000 euros. The actresses Sandra Hüller, Corinna Harfouch and Sophie Rois have received the prize so far. (dpa)
