District level athletics and team sports competitions for the disabled are being held throughout Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority to promote the disabled.

In that regard, district level sports competitions for the alternatively abled were held today at Theni District Stadium. The competitions were held under various categories. Muralitharan flagged off the launch.

First the athletics and then the team games.

Athletes are classified as visually impaired, hearing impaired, hand and foot disabled and can compete in various events such as 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, including shot put, long jump and standing jump.

In the team sports category, volleyball matches, kabaddi matches and bowling matches were also held.

More than 300 alternatively abled students from different parts of Theni district participated in these games.

District Administrator Mr. Muralitharan presented medals to the students who won at the end of the competition and were selected for the state level competition.
