Twelve people were arrested in Rumbek, South Sudan, accused of being involved in the ambush of Bishop Christian Carlassare. This was reported by the news agency Aci Africa, according to what was relaunched by Nigrizia, the magazine of the Comboni Missionaries. Three of them, among which the name of the diocesan coordinator John Mathiang stands out, are priests of the Diocese of Rumbek while the others are lay people with different responsibilities at the level of the local Church, reports the missionary portal of which Father Carlassare himself belongs. Father Christian Carlassare, 43 years old, Italian Comboni missionary and elected bishop of diocese of Rumbek, in South Sudan, was wounded inside his home, on Sunday night – thirty minutes after midnight – by two armed men and now in stable condition.
