At the moment, there are no active fires on the territory of the country, the Ministry of the Interior announced. Extremely large areas have been burned by the fiery element in the past days – thousands of acres of forests, agricultural areas, grasses and bushes. According to the analysis, the number of fires compared to last year has increased by more than 10%.
Hundreds of firefighters, gendarmes, police officers, forestry officials, soldiers and volunteers participated in putting out the fires. After the activation of the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union (EU), teams from Spain and the Czech Republic were involved in extinguishing the high-altitude fires, Turkish firefighters also came to help. Yesterday, all pre-deployed firefighting teams were released.
In the late afternoon, signals were received about renewed two outbreaks – over the village of Strandzha and in the area of 204-205 pyramid. 16 firefighters with five fire trucks were immediately dispatched and quickly extinguished the fires. The teams also stayed overnight to monitor the situation, the police informed.
There is no danger of the fire spreading on Greek territory near the Bulgarian-Greek border. On our side, sufficient teams and equipment are provided and deployed in order to quickly react in case of a possible change in the situation.
