El Salvador has not reported any cases of monkeypox (MPOX), despite the global health emergency recently declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). This was confirmed by the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, who assured that the country maintains strict epidemiological control in the face of the alert.
“We are carrying out all the necessary epidemiological surveillance in response to the MPOX alert. We have the capacity to carry out diagnostic tests and, so far, we have not registered any new cases,” said Minister Alabi.
In an effort to strengthen the health response, the Ministry of Health has expanded the capacity of the national laboratory network to carry out diagnostic tests in a timely manner. In addition, refresher and training sessions have been held for health personnel in relation to monkeypox.
Minister Alabi also highlighted that, in collaboration with other government institutions, border crossings and clinics are being closely monitored to identify any possible cases of MPOX in the country. Continued surveillance and preparation are key to keeping the Salvadoran population safe from the global threat of this disease.
