As Kazys Maksvytis, the coach of the Lithuanian national team, confirmed after his return, he did not have a plan “B” and thought that after the Olympic selection tournament he would have to continue training and preparing for the Games. So both he and the basketball players had to adjust their summer activities.
Not only the strategist, but also several members of the national team spoke about the Olympic selection. Finally, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, the captain of the 34-year-old national team, put an end to the sad story, who thanked the fans for their support on the Facebook social network and said that everyone needs to work purposefully, then victories will return to Lithuanian basketball.
The basketball player extended his contract with the Athens AEK team on Monday.
“Hot hearts, cold minds,” wrote M. Kuzminskas. – Perhaps the first ones were the most missing to be in the Olympic Games, and the second ones are missing for all of us now.
The result does not satisfy anyone, but especially us, because we could and should have achieved it, especially since it was the last chance for many of us to participate and win something at the Olympics.
That’s not what we gathered for, that’s not what we trained for, to look at a celebrating rival. And now there are definitely no magic recipes that will fix all the problems from the morning overnight. Therefore, only by being united and rational should we work in one direction so that basketball victories return to where they should be – to Lithuania.
Thank you to everyone who was together in Puerto Rico, thank you to those who supported us from Lithuania and other corners of the world… it hurts, it’s sad, but everything must be and will be fine!”.
M. Kuzminskas is one of the three members of the Lithuanian national team who played in Puerto Rico and have Olympic Games experience. Together with Marius Grigonis and Domantas Sabonis, he competed in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
