The breakfast scheme, which is currently implemented in 1,937 government primary schools, is being extended to 30,122 primary schools in the state.

A fund of 500 crore rupees has been allocated for this scheme. Out of this, 18 lakh students will be benefited.

Polytechnic Development

54 Government Polytechnic Colleges will be upgraded as centers of excellence at a cost of Rs.2,783 crore. A training center named TN-WISH is to be set up in Ambattur, Chennai at a cost of Rs 120 crore to train teachers in polytechnics and ITIs.

Similarly, a skill development center will be set up at Chulagiri in Krishnagiri district at a cost of Rs.80 crore. A scheme called ‘Skill Schools in Factories’ will be launched at a cost of Rs 25 crore, where students of polytechnics and ITIs will learn directly in factories. Through this, the shortage of skilled workers faced by the industries will be removed.

Rural road development

5,145 km of rural roads will be upgraded this year at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

Coimbatore, Madurai Development Project

A huge allocation has been made for Chennai in the budget. Allotment to other major cities is nominal. Coimbatore and Madurai have been allocated Rs 1 crore each to prepare an integrated development plan.
