The former footballer Alfonso Pérez Muñoz stated this Wednesday, after the decision to remove his name from the Getafe stadium, that “if for some reason the name of the field has to be changed, let it be for an economic issue and not for an ideological issue or for any other reason.”

In a video published on his social networks, Pérez has confirmed his comments and has also expanded his arguments. “There are people who are bothered when someone tells the truth., and this is evidence and it is a truth. That is why there has been so much commotion, but whoever wants to see and understand it, this is clear. There is a part of society that if it does not agree with what you think, it criticizes you. I have not told any lies, I have told the truth, and if someone does not like this, then they will go and criticize you,” stated the former footballer.

“I have nothing against women. I have a mother and a daughter who plays soccer”

Pérez, 51 years old, emphasizes: “I have nothing against women. I have a mother, and I have a daughter who plays soccer, and I hope one day she can reach the first division and be international, but even though she is my daughter, she will never be able to compare to what a male player can win.”

Getafe decision

The Getafe City Council (Madrid) and Getafe CF agreed this Wednesday rename the city stadiumwhich changed its name from Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to just Coliseum, after statements by the former player to the newspaper El Mundo in which he said that women’s soccer cannot be equated with men’s soccer.
