The President of the Union of Bulgarian Teachers Janka Takeva commented to NOVA NEWS whether there should be a complete change in the content of the textbooks. According to her, there are ridiculous things in the study material for the 6th grade that even children laugh at.
“Don’t expect any changes anytime soon, for several reasons. They have created working groups, but this is a very difficult process and we need to carefully work in this direction. I hope that the next team of the Ministry of Education and Culture will continue in this direction. I am convinced that the content of history, literature, and geography textbooks, which form the Bulgarian identity, should be changed. It’s hard because there’s a lot of politics. Everything is contested. There is also a very strong influence of the academic community,” Takeva explained.
She held a meeting with the creator of the PISA global study, Dr. Andreas Schleicher, with whom they discussed the education system in our country. According to him, our education is at a good level, but children should learn more creativity.
“In the latest PISA study, it is written that 28% of children in our country are anxious because of their families. They are not safe because they live in incomplete families,” explained the chairman of the Bulgarian Teachers’ Union.
