There is a fear of flooding in the lower areas of Chittagong Division

Heavy rainfall tends to occur inland and upstream. Due to this, the water level of the rivers of Chittagong division may rise rapidly in the next two days and some lower areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachari, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur districts may be flooded.

The Flood Prediction and Warning Center reported this information in a forecast on Friday (September 13).

It is said that the water level of Muhri, Feni and Gomti rivers of Chittagong division is decreasing, on the other hand, the water level of Halda, Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers is increasing. However, the water level of rivers in Barisal and Khulna divisions is stable.

According to meteorological agencies, a distinct low pressure is located over Northeast Bay of Bengal adjacent to Southeast Bangladesh and heavy rainfall is expected over the coastal areas for the next two days. As a result, the water level of rivers in Barisal and Khulna divisions may increase during this time. The Brahmaputra-Yamuna river water level is receding, which may continue for the next five days and may flow below Vipatseema.

Besides, the water level of Ganga-Padma river is decreasing, which may remain stable for the next three days and the water level may decrease in the next two days and may flow below the floodplain. The water level of Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in Rangpur division is stable. The water level of these rivers may recede slowly and flow below the danger line for the next three days.

The water level of Surma and Kushiara rivers in Sylhet division is decreasing and the water level of other major rivers – Manu, Khoai, Sarigoin, Dhalai etc. is stable, which may continue for the next three days and may flow below the flood limit.
