Ukrainian Catholic leaders have said that US President Joe Biden’s unexpected visit to Ukraine has surprised and symbolized the world and given everyone a positive impression that the war could end.

Ukrainian Catholic leaders have responded to local news reports that President Biden arrived in Kiev, Ukraine, and met with Ukrainian President Zelensky for more than five hours at the Mariinsky Palace, ahead of the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Archbishop Gudziak said, “There is nothing stronger than unity, and the presence of the head of state expresses his personal commitment to the country’s freedom and democracy, and the people of Ukraine will be grateful for the love and support that the United States has shown to the Ukrainian people.”

“One year later, Kiev and Ukraine stand bravely. Democracy stands. The Americans stand with you, the world stands with you,” said Ukrainian Congress Party leader Yevgeny Luciv, calling President Biden’s visit “a very brave move.”

Highlighting the fact that Christian churches were used as hospitals during the war, Lusiv said that no matter how many times Ukraine was attacked over the centuries, it stood bravely, peace should return to the country as soon as possible, and the country should win with all its might.

Archbishop Gutsiak said he hopes Biden’s visit “will help bring to the attention of many Americans today Ukraine as a center of global change.”

Archbishop Kutsiak said that a successful Ukraine would “ensure that tyranny and dictators are brought down” and that “the imperialism and colonialism of not only Putin, but other dictators will soon be dismantled.”
