Capital market regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam said there is a huge potential for Chinese businessmen to invest in Bangladesh. He said these things at a summit titled ‘The Rise of Bengal Tiger: Trade and Investment Opportunities between Bangladesh and China’ on Tuesday (July 9) at a hotel in Beijing, China.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the chief guest at the conference. It was also attended by policy makers from the governments of both countries and leaders of relevant investor and trade associations.

BSEC chairman said, we have capital market. Investors invest there. Our capital market has a market cap of $68 billion. There are 356 companies listed there. Our equity market is now smaller than the debt market. So we have considerable investment potential in the equity market.

He said, our government treasury bonds are becoming very popular day by day. Apart from this, Blue Bonds and Government Treasury Bonds are in operation. You can also invest in our public infrastructure sector.

He also said that both China and Bangladesh have signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) for projects worth more than $25 billion. In this, Chinese investors can take advantage of the significant investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

BSEC Chairman said, Bangladesh is the 8th most populous country in the world with increasing purchasing power and rapid economic growth. The country benefits from various trade agreements, a stable political climate, strategic geographical location and low production costs due to reasonable wages. These factors have made Bangladesh an attractive destination for business.

At this time, the BSEC chairman highlighted the commercial relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
