“Very happy to be in Madrid tomorrow. As I said at the beginning in this round, it is a roller coaster of a lot of things, how it starts, you don’t know how it ends and well, the truth is very happy with what was done in this round, with the pros and cons of everything. I had a very nice stage opportunity, a lot of things that I have left from the experience of the return and well, a fifth place with Mikel.” The Colombian runner also noted: “Today we tried again and well, at the end of three weeks to be there with the favorites, the truth is that for me it is very important in the face of everything that is coming and nothing. Tomorrow we will enjoy there in Madrid,” he noted.

Regarding this final part of La Vuelta, he indicates: “Yes, it’s nice to be there for the last few days, when the strength had gone down, when the kilometers are already heavy, when your legs hurt, to be there with the best… that’s for me. It is important,” says the Bahrain rider.

Regarding the general classification and the position of his teammate, he points out: “Mikel was our card. We tried… we wanted fourth place. Movistar was also very close, back then I knew that I had to fight for that position today,” says Buitrago and talks about him: “You always want more and at the beginning I was quite excited. But hey, I think that after everything I went through this lap, tenth place is not bad at all,” says Santiago.

To conclude, he states: “I think I always say it, this is discipline, dreaming, working hard, enjoying it, you have to love this a lot because you suffer a lot in this sport. Sometimes it’s difficult to get there, it’s a lot of things, one day you’re down, other days you’re up, and then enjoy every day, enjoy every training session, enjoy every race,” says the man from Bogotá and refers to his colleague and friend Einer Rubio: “The truth is I’m happy when we are in the race together because we both started at the same age. Being here competing in stages is very nice. Two boys who started when they were 15 years old, there, starting to climb the heights of wine and now being here, with the best in the Vuelta a España. There is no ceiling for dreams, you simply have to work for them,” concludes the coffee climber.
