Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan has said that it is difficult to launch 5G phones under Rs 10,000 at present.
Xiaomi has already launched 5G phones in the Indian market. As Jio, Airtel and other telcos start rolling out 5G services in the coming months, depending on customer demand and reception, Xiaomi plans to bring 5G phones that most Indian consumers can afford.
Speaking in this regard, Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B said, “When the festive season starts, the arrival of 5G smartphones in the Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 price range will start increasing. We are also gearing up for our festive sale. We are also planning to offer discounts on various types of phones and products.
As telecom operators are set to roll out 5G services soon, we will see a big boost in demand for 5G devices. Especially at the start of the festive season! Tech lovers will eagerly buy smartphones in the 15-20k price range that will last for 2-3 years. However, most Indians prefer to buy smartphones in the 10-15k price range.” He said.
While brands like Realme have already confirmed the launch of 5G phones under the Rs 10,000 segment soon, when asked when Xiaomi will launch such affordable 5G phones, he said, “It depends on the economics. We expect the price of chipsets to come down later this year. So it will take some time to launch 5G smartphones under 10k. There is no chance for that now,” said Muralikrishnan.
