In the complete shutdown, the city dwellers leave their homes, but the public transport is not available on the roads. Shyamoli, Kalyanpur and Mirpur roads of the capital have no public transport except BRTC. As a result, people are forced to travel on foot and in rickshaws and CNG at extra fare. Awami-Youth League leaders and activists have been seen taking positions in these areas. Around 11 am local MP Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil was also seen in the field.

Some of the market shops in these areas are open but most of the shops are closed. All garment factories in Mirpur opened at 8 am as usual. However, the sidewalk hawkers did not open any shops. Some shop owner-employees came to the shop but were standing in front without opening the shop.

Although some shops opened in the morning, there was unrest in Mirpur-2 and 1 due to the situation of students in Mirpur-10 and the incident of running back and forth.

Most of the vehicles traveling from Mirpur area to Gulistan, Motijheel, New Market, Syedabad were not seen leaving. Many buses are parked from Mirpur-10 roundabout to 2nd junction.

The agitating students announced a complete shutdown across the country on Thursday (July 18) to protest the attack by the law enforcement forces and the killing of students in the quota reform movement and to demand the punishment of the attackers, secure campuses and quota reform in government jobs.
