Every few weeks, we hear news of a breakthrough in solid-state battery technology.
This is my daily reality. As part of our “FestBatt” cluster, funded by the Ministry of Research, I work with a team of 20 scientific institutions in Germany to analyze these reports.
What are the results?
It’s a serious business. Designing a solid-state battery that actually improves performance is a huge challenge. The introduction of the lithium-ion battery in 1992 followed decades of research. Solid-state batteries have been actively researched for about a decade now. Many reported breakthroughs are therefore relative successes.
