Alberto Garzon has given explanations about his resigns from the lists of the Sumar Movement in the next general elections. In an appearance this Sunday, the Minister of Consumption assures that he has been on those lists “it would not have been the best decision“.

“I think that other colleagues can contribute more than me and, as a Republican, I believe in the renewal of public figures”, he defends, while stressing that that renewal “is healthy for political projects.

Garzón recalled that he will continue to work within the Sumar project, contributing his experience of “12 years on the political front line“in which, as he himself has recalled, he has gone “from the 15M seats, to Congress and to be a minister of Spain.”

In the final part of his speech, he acknowledged having made the decision at a “complicated moment”, asking “all the forces of the left” to work “together around Sumar”. “There is not a minute to losewe have to offer an alternative to the citizenry”, stressed Garzón.

The minister has also shared his concern about “political projects that despise democracy or caricature the political adversary.” His response to this is clear: “The left has to meet to stand up to it“.

I cannot leave politics because the reasons I had for entering politics are still valid. Yes, I leave the first political line. I hope that people will remember my time in politics as something useful,” adds Garzón.
