There is now ‘officially’ a flu epidemic

by time news

“The flu has been in the country for a while, but only now all the conditions have been met to speak of a flu epidemic,” the health institute Sciensano reported. ‘We see a clear increase in the number of flu cases among general practitioners, in laboratory analyzes and in hospital admissions.’

According to Sciensano, the number of cases is still rising, because we are only at the beginning of the epidemic. The peak is expected in three to four weeks. “The infections occur in all age groups, but so far children and younger adults seem to be most affected.”

In addition to the flu virus, the coronavirus and RSV are also still circulating to a lesser extent. The well-known precautions to protect yourself and (weaker) others apply to all those viruses: good ventilation, washing hands and staying home in case of illness. Sciensano emphasizes that it is still useful and possible to get a flu shot. It also explicitly recommends again to wear a mouth mask on public transport.
