Colombo: Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the International Fund (IMF) is the only chance we have to recover from the economic crisis.
In this regard, he said: We know that the country’s economy is in disarray. Because of this, I know the country is facing many problems. Employment has declined. Inflation has increased and has increased the living burden of the people. Due to this, people’s lifestyle has changed. Privileges enjoyed by the people of Sri Lanka in the past have diminished. Bad economic situation has affected all sectors including education and health.
All these are the consequences of economic collapse. There is no point in talking about the root causes of these problems. These have already happened. The only chance we have now is to get support from international funds. Otherwise, we cannot recover.
Currently we are implementing debt restructuring schemes. We are negotiating with Japan regarding the loan. Japan, India and China have provided loans. In the current scenario, the export market will decline next year. We need to improve our tourism sector. Ranil Wickremesinghe said this.
